MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - A lengthy restoration has wrapped up on a pair of World War I-era cannons at Muskegon’s Veterans Memorial Park.

The Muskegon Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1LvZvou ) reports a rededication and celebration is being held at the park at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cannons were put in the park in 1937 and hadn’t been restored until now.

The restoration process took 20 months and cost $21,000. More than 200 donors contributed, and Muskegon County Commissioner Bob Scolnik says he was getting checks every day at one point.

The project also included installation of new concrete pads for the cannons and a new monument.
