DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say two men were found dead in a suburban Chicago town house and five others injured in a hazardous materials incident.

Emergency crews responded to the home in unincorporated Des Plaines on Thursday afternoon. Authorities say the call for help indicated there were people in distress in the garage of the house. A woman found there was hospitalized in critical condition.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Department says four officers responding to the scene had trouble breathing and were hospitalized for evaluation. They were later released. Authorities have not revealed the nature of the hazardous material involved.

Firefighters were seen entering the home in protective gear and being hosed off after they left.

Authorities say investigators were able to enter the home late Thursday after tests determined it was safe to do so.
