SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish District 6 Commissioner Lindora Baker has announced her resignation.

KSLA-TV (https://bit.ly/1KasTmU ) reports the 12-year veteran says her resignation, announced Thursday, will be effective Friday.

Baker says she wants more time to be with her family. She is working to get custody of her 7-year-old granddaughter, who is the daughter of her daughter who was killed in a 2012 car accident.

Commission clerk Todd Hopkins says the full commission has a certain number of days to appoint someone to fill Baker’s seat. Her replacement will serve until the next commission panel is seated after this fall’s election.

Baker is recommending businessman Lynn Cawthorne as her successor.

She says she’s worked with him the past and thinks they have similar views.
