SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Brookings man is in custody in Sioux Falls after allegedly driving drunk and hitting four vehicles, including one that was occupied.

Police say an officer pursued the 35-year-old suspect for a time early Thursday but halted the chase when speeds exceeded the posted speed limit. The man eventually drove down a railway embankment and into a backyard and was arrested there without incident.

Authorities accuse the man of striking three parked vehicles and rear-ending an occupied vehicle that was stopped for a red light. The two people in that vehicle were examined by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

Police say the suspect is on probation for a third drunken driving conviction.
