SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - Demolition crews are preparing to tear down a northeastern Pennsylvania tire warehouse as fire crews battle a stubborn blaze there.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton reported (https://bit.ly/1NX0Chh) that city fire officials sought the 110-foot-tall building’s demolition Thursday, saying they can’t completely extinguish the fire until it is down.

Firefighters have been hosing down flames at the Sandone Tire warehouse in Scranton since Wednesday evening.

Officials say thousands of tires are on fire at the warehouse, which houses an estimated 20,000 tires or more.

The building’s roof caved in just before midnight, and Scranton Fire Chief Patrick DeSarno says it could burn for days. Officials say they haven’t determined the origin of the fire.
