COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - A Lowndes County jury has convicted a Columbus man of murder and aggravated assault in a 2014 shooting inside the coliseum at the local fairgrounds that left one person dead and another injured.

According to local media reports, 20-year-old Kale Scott was convicted Wednesday and sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years for aggravated assault for, to run consecutively.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Devin Montgomery was fatally shot during an argument at a graduation party.

Scott argued he didn’t intend to shoot Montgomery and Freddie Smith, who was wounded in the leg. He also testified he’d been scared of Montgomery.

But prosecutors say there was no indication of any fear and Scott could have simply walked away once the fight had been broken up.
