2 bodies found after vehicle crash, fire at tire shop

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Two people have been found dead inside a vehicle that apparently crashed into a Green Bay tire shop, which was destroyed by fire.

Green Bay police say the fire happened about 2 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters arrived to find Hernandez Auto and Tire engulfed in flames.

After putting out the fire, authorities found a destroyed vehicle, with two people inside. Police said it appears the vehicle crashed into the building.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.


Boy accused of shooting woman was dating her daughter

SARATOGA, Wis. (AP) - Search warrants filed in Wood County show the teenager accused of fatally shooting a woman had been dating the victim’s daughter who ended a relationship with the boy the day her mother was killed.

Gannett Central Wisconsin Media (https://wrtnews.co/1hIc8TKhttps://wrtnews.co/1hIc8TK ) reports the warrants describe the events that led to the death of 47-year-old Theresa Coates at her home in Saratoga Aug. 17. Authorities say the 17-year-old Nekoosa boy tried to kill himself, but survived a gunshot wound.

The documents say Coates’ 17-year-old daughter told police she ended her relationship with the boy the day of the shooting and he threatened to kill himself. The teen had a shotgun when he showed up at Coates’ home. Authorities say he shot Coates in the abdomen and shot himself in the head. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Man surrenders while holding baby following standoff

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) - Wausau police say a man used a baby as a shield when he surrendered to tactical officers following a standoff.

Authorities say police were called to a house Wednesday night on a report of a domestic disturbance. They found a man and woman who were wanted on felony warrants. Capt. Matt Barnes says police had been looking for the couple in order to check on the welfare of an 8-month-old child.

WSAW-TV (https://bit.ly/1K7Mrs1https://bit.ly/1K7Mrs1 ) says officers surrounded the house after neighbors told police the man was seen with a handgun.

The woman eventually surrendered to police. Officials say the man later came out of the house with the child in his arms and was arrested. The baby was returned to the custodial parent.

Couple, newborn rescued on Chippewa River

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) - Firefighters rescued a man, woman and infant from a boat that was taking on water in the Chippewa River.

Authorities say the boat hit a rock bed on the river about 8 p.m. Wednesday night. The 26-year-old man, 21-year-old woman and 5-week-old baby were brought to shore safely by Chippewa Falls firefighters.

WEAU-TV (https://bit.ly/1KPMLGwhttps://bit.ly/1KPMLGw ) says the boat was about 150 yards from shore.
