HOLBROOK, Ariz. (AP) - Navajo County Sheriff’s officials say a 10-year-old Arizona homicide case appears to be closed with the reported death of the only known suspect.

An arrest warrant had been issued for then 20-year-old Marco Antonio Perea-Gayosso in the June 29, 2005 killing of 61-year-old Gary Wayne Hyde at his home west of Snowflake.

Hyde’s vehicle was stolen and later found abandoned at a Phoenix bus terminal.

Authorities say Perea-Gayosso was seen parking the vehicle before getting into a taxi.

Sheriff’s detectives learned Perea-Gayosso was living in southern Mexico in 2011. But federal authorities obtained a death certificate showing he was fatally shot in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Detectives did more interviews and analyzed evidence collected during the original investigation and determined this month that Perea-Gayosso likely was the only suspect in Hyde’s death.
