SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a woman who jumped from a truck her husband was driving was struck and killed by the vehicle.

It happened about 1:05 a.m. Thursday on South DuPont Boulevard near Smyrna. Troopers say 46-year-old Michael Whitley of Smyrna was driving the box truck south and preparing to turn left.

Police say Whitley’s wife, 43-year-old Evelyn Whitley, jumped out the passenger’s side door. Authorities say she fell to the ground and was struck by the truck’s right rear dual wheels.

Evelyn Whitley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
