STANFIELD, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say two Casa Grande men have been arrested after being caught in Stanfield trying to smuggle marijuana.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to pull over a Ford Mustang and a Chevrolet Camaro on Interstate 8 near Highway 84 when the two vehicles separated.

The deputy pursued the Mustang, which became stuck in mud.

The driver, 20-year-old Rigoberto Leue-Tejeda fled but was captured.

According to deputies, two backpacks with 77 pounds of marijuana and three two-way radios were found.

Meanwhile, U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped the Camaro and arrested 20-year-old Erick Tarango.

An assault-style rifle, ski masks and two-way radios were seized.

Sheriff Paul Babeu says Leue-Tejeda admitted that Tarango paid him $1,000 to pick up the drugs from a designated spot.
