MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - An astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center is the newest member of West Virginia University’s Board of Governors.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Kim Weaver’s appointment Thursday. She fills the unexpired term of Rob Alsop, who stepped down before being named a WVU vice president.

Weaver is an expert in X-ray astronomy. She received her bachelor’s degree in physics from WVU in 1987.

Tomblin also reappointed Charleston attorney Thomas Flaherty and David Alvarez, the president of Energy Transportation LLC in Bridgeport, to the board. Flaherty is the board chairman.
