OBERLIN, La. (AP) - An Oberlin woman and her boyfriend have been sentenced in the death of the woman’s 2-year-old daughter in 2013.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) Brandi Holyfield was sentenced to 25 years Thursday after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of her daughter, Tatiana Holyfield.

Attorney John Demoruelle asked the court to consider Holyfield’s 9-year-old son and that this was her first felony offense when handing down the sentence.

Holyfield’s then boyfriend, Bobby J. Davis Jr., was sentenced to three years with credit for time served after being found guilty of negligent homicide in June.

Davis initially told investigators the toddler’s death was an accident and that she had fallen on an electric heater after falling off the front porch earlier. He later blamed the girl’s mother for her injuries.
