SANDY HOOK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a body has been recovered from a vessel found in 70 feet of water near Sandy Hook.

New Jersey State Police Capt. Stephen Jones said a private dive team recovered the person’s body Friday afternoon near buoy No. 14 off Middletown.

The name of the person has not been released.

Coast Guard spokeswoman Ali Flockerzi said the family of the vessel’s captain hired the team to search for the body.

Police earlier this week confirmed the sunken vessel found in the Sandy Hook Channel is a 40-foot fishing trawler called El Jefe that was reported missing this week.

Debris was found later in the day and the vessel’s captain was reported missing.
