AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A retired Akron mayor was given a verbal warning by officers for public urination on the campus of the University of Akron.

University police officials say Don Plusquellic was caught urinating on a tree nearby his parked rental car on Wolf Ledges Parkway around 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

Responding officers say Plusquellic zipped up his pants when they approached and he told them he “figured he would give us something to do on a slow night.”

UA spokesman Wayne Hill says Plusquellic was treated like any other citizen in a similar circumstance.

Hill says officers would’ve pursued additional action if they felt it was warranted.

Plusquellic, Akron’s longest-serving mayor, abruptly announced his resignation and retirement in May.

Attempts to reach Plusquellic for comment were unsuccessful.
