LAS VEGAS (AP) - Former Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins, who abruptly resigned this month, says he’s likely to run for North Las Vegas mayor in 2017.

The outspoken, cowboy hat-wearing Democrat told KNPR (https://bit.ly/1MTb6j4) that he would definitely run for mayor if the city is able to survive its financial problems.

Collins resigned from the Clark County board weeks ago with more than a year left in his term, citing family matters.

But he said Friday that he wanted to lead his hometown, assuming that the state doesn’t take over the debt-ridden city.

Collins also said he recently fundraised $50,000 for a mayoral campaign and will start the campaign in earnest once his family matters are settled.
