ROEBUCK, S.C. (AP) - A 13-year-old student has been charged with disturbing a school after officials say he verbally threatened to shoot several students at a Spartanburg County high school.

Multiple media report the student was taken into custody Thursday morning by the resource officer at the Dorman High School Freshman Campus after several students told school administrators about the threats.

Principal Mark Smith says the student threatened to bring a gun to school and target African-American students he accused of bullying him, and anyone not wearing red.

Smith said when questioned by school officials, the student told them it was a joke.

Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Bobo says the student did not have a weapon when he was taken into custody, and officials do not think he had immediate access to a gun.
