HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Poor air quality due to forest fires in the West has led to the cancellation, postponement and relocation of several high school football games.

Mark Beckham, executive director of the Montana High School Association, said Libby’s game at Missoula Loyola had been canceled while Missoula Hellgate’s game against Bozeman has been moved to Bozeman. Officials were to decide at game-time whether to play.

Ronan’s scheduled game against Jefferson County High School has been moved to Boulder.

The start of Whitefish’s game at Havre has been delayed until 4 p.m. Saturday to give the Whitefish team and fans more travel time after U.S. Highway 2 was closed at Essex.

The Columbia Falls football game at Corvallis has been postponed until 7 p.m. Saturday. Polson’s home football game against Browning has been postponed while Seeley-Swan’s home football game against Darby was rescheduled for Monday.

Beckham says coaches and officials will have the discretion to take extra timeouts and give players more time to recover between plays.
