ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - Authorities have filed a search warrant in Stearns County to examine the cell phone of a teenage girl they believe may have been driving in a crash that killed a father and his young daughter.

Court documents say the 17-year-old girl refused to talk to investigators who came to St. Cloud Hospital after the crash last month. Fifty-four-year-old Charles Maurer, of Becker, and his 10-year-old daughter Cassy were killed when a pickup truck slammed into their van July 21.

Investigators initially identified an 18-year-old man as the driver of the pickup. The St. Cloud Times (https://on.sctimes.com/1NUVnid ) reports the man told a state trooper that his girlfriend was actually behind the wheel.

Investigators want permission from a judge to search the girl’s phone to determine whether she was using it at the time of the crash.
