BOSTON (AP) - The MBTA is sharpening its skills when it comes to responding to a chemical release in a subway station.

T workers, transit police, as well as Boston police, fire and emergency services personnel are scheduled to participate in an exercise on Tuesday morning at the agency’s emergency training facility on Foundry Street in South Boston.

Neighbors are being told to expect increased activity in the area.

As part of the exercise, the MBTA becomes aware of a chemical release in a subway station and must initiate its protocol for evacuating customers as well as notifying local, state, and federal entities. Dozens of volunteers are expected to participate in this exercise in the role of commuters.

The performance will be evaluated.
