WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that left a man in critical condition.

Police say officers responded to 6th and Madison streets just after 8 p.m. on Saturday for a report of shots fired. Police say officers located a car nearby transporting a victim to a local hospital. Police say officers escorted the car to the emergency room, where a 24-year-old man was delivered for treatment for a gunshot wound to the chest. Police say the man is in critical condition.

Police say the investigation is in its preliminary stages.
