VINTON, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with the stabbing of a woman in Vinton.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets that Willard Hale of Vinton was arrested Saturday. Hale is charged with aggravated malicious wounding in connection with the stabbing of 28-year-old Ashley Brogan.

Maj. Ricky Gardner says a deputy responding to a home about a possible assault found Hale and Brogan in a wooded area near the home. Police say Brogan, who had numerous stab wounds on her neck and torso, was transported to an area hospital where her condition is unknown.

Hale is also charged with abduction and strangulation of another person.

He is being held without bond at the Bedford Adult Detention Center. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
