LAS VEGAS (AP) - More charges were filed and a judge set bail at $500,000 for a former Las Vegas police Explorer accused of lewdness, child sexual assault and kidnapping involving an underage schoolgirl.

Prosecutor Stacey Kollins said Tuesday that 22-year-old Joshua Honea now faces 41 felony charges and a preliminary hearing Sept. 15.

Honea’s defense attorney, Garrett Ogata, didn’t immediately respond to messages. He has said Honea plans to plead not guilty.

Authorities say Honea began a relationship with the girl when he was an 18-year-old volunteer Explorer scout and counselor at the girl’s middle school.

Sex acts allegedly began when the girl was under 14 and in sixth grade.

Honea is being held at the Clark County jail. He could face life in prison if convicted of kidnapping and child sex assault.
