READING, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania bail bondsman has pleaded guilty to charges in what authorities said were $2 million in fraudulent bonds.

Fifty-two-year-old Vincent Smith of Lower Heidelberg Township pleaded guilty in Berks County on Tuesday to forgery, criminal conspiracy, records tampering and securing documents by deception.

He and several employees at Ace Bail Bonds were charged after authorities alleged that bonds were not insured and the company used the same bond to post bail in as many as 23 cases.

Defense attorney Jay Nigrini said he will seek probation at sentencing in September but also asked that his client’s home be evaluated for electronic monitoring.
