LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Department of Transportation says a stretch of Interstate 65 near Lafayette will likely remain closed until Thursday as crews finish emergency structural repairs on a bridge.

A statement from the department late Tuesday said crews would be working overnight to erect temporary steel supports needed for making the repairs. The statement says contractors expect to finish their work by Thursday.

The northbound lanes of I-65 between the State Road 26 Exit and the State Road 25 Exit were closed about 3 p.m. Tuesday. A detour is in place.

The bridge being repaired carries traffic over Wildcat Creek. The statement from IDOT says construction crews noticed “unusual movements” in the bridge and investigated further, finding that some bridge bearings had fallen out in a “short time span.”
