PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Panhandle deputy and another man were injured when authorities say the other man purposefully caused a head-on collision.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 22-year-old Richard A. Holsendorff was traveling on Scenic Highway near Pensacola Monday afternoon when he crossed into oncoming traffic. The front right portion of Holsendorff’s car hit the front right portion of Deputy Terry Hammock’s patrol car.

The Pensacola News Journal (https://goo.gl/g8KomF ) reports that Holsendorff’s car overturned and continued on before coming to a stop, while the patrol car stopped in the area of the collision.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

Holsendorff, who sustained minor injuries, told authorities at the scene he was attempting to commit suicide.

FHP is investigating possible criminal charges.
