MEDICINE BOW, Wyo. (AP) - The Medicine Bow Wind Farm is generating more electricity than ever after new technology was used to complete a two-year overhaul and life extension upgrades.

The Rawlins Daily Times reports (https://bit.ly/1DqIjAp ) the upgrades completed by Gamesa, a global leader in wind technology, have increased the power for Commonwealth Bay’s wind farm by nearly 8 percent. The turbines have been upgraded to 650 kW and 710 kW machines.

The upgrades began in 2014 and have included the application of Gamesa’s turbine overhaul and life extension programs to the farm’s nine turbines. The aging turbines have been transformed into modern turbines using new technology to alter the major electrical components of the machines.

As part of the upgrade package, Gamesa will continue to operate and maintain the wind complex for 15 years.
