MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Montana senior linebacker Herbert Gamboa has been suspended for the team’s season-opener against North Dakota State for violating team and athletic department rules.

The school announced the suspension Tuesday, a day after Gamboa pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Court records said witnesses saw Gamboa challenging other people to a fight and hitting someone outside a house party early on July 31.

The Missoulian reports Gamboa told Municipal Court Judge Sam Warren on Monday that he was at the party with some friends “and it just got a little rowdy.”

Warren ordered Gamboa to pay a $50 fine and a $110 surcharge and gave him a deferred sentence. If he follows court-ordered conditions, he will be able to remove the conviction from his record.
