CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) - An Orange County sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man during a standoff near the Camp Pendleton Marine base.

Authorities say deputies had stopped a car Tuesday afternoon off of Interstate 5 when another car pulled up.

CHP Officer Chris Parent tells KABC-TV that the driver claimed he’d committed a crime and had a gun.

The deputy called for backup and officers from several agencies responded.

Authorities say a deputy shot the man after a standoff that lasted about an hour.

The man’s name and details of what prompted the shooting haven’t been released.
