ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a 56-year-old moped rider was killed in a collision with a car in Fairfax County.

Police say Peter Matthew Kester was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Monday night.

Police say Kester was riding a moped when the driver of a Toyota Camry tried to make a U-turn and apparently didn’t see Kester.

Police say Kester attempted to stop, but hit the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Police say Kester was wearing a helmet and reflective vest.

Police say the 23-year-old driver, who remained at the scene, was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation. Police say alcohol and speed don’t appear to be factors in the crash.
