MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Milwaukee police officer has shot an armed suspect during a foot chase on the city’s north side.

Police say it started Tuesday afternoon when plainclothes officers saw a group of men they suspected to be drug dealers.

When officers confronted the group, one of the men ran away. Officers chased the man through an alley when the suspect fired at least one round at the officer.

WTMJ-TV (https://bit.ly/1gImkuZ ) reports the officer involved is 34 years old, and has 11 years of experience with the Milwaukee Police Department.

The 23-year-old suspect has been taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Officials say a gun was recovered from the scene.

The officer will be placed on standard administrative duty while the shooting is investigated.
