ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Federal authorities have arrested 21 people from central New York, accusing them of participating in heroin trafficking in the Utica and Rome area.

The arrests follow a three-month investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and state police that included wiretaps.

Prosecutors say 11 search warrants were executed and all 21 people named in two indictments were arrested Tuesday.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says the heroin epidemic has hit central New York, and the arrests disrupt the supply of kilograms of heroin by people capitalizing on the epidemic.
