TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama students will be closer to the action for home basketball games under coach Avery Johnson.

The university announced Wednesday that student seating for the upcoming season will be in the first two sections across from the visiting team’s bench.

Students in the past were seated at the end of the court along a baseline.

Johnson mentioned the possibility of changes to improve the atmosphere during games at Coleman Coliseum when he was hired in April.

Johnson says the change is a step toward creating a better environment for students at home basketball games.

Alabama says it was one of the only Southeastern Conference programs that didn’t have a lot of student seats near the court.
