ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - Anderson police say 21 people have been arrested in connection with a heroin distribution ring they say operated in eight central Indiana counties.

Police say state and local law enforcement agencies began arresting people in Madison, Marion and Hamilton counties on Wednesday morning. They say outstanding warrants remain for three other people.

Those arrested collectively face charges including heroin possession, dealing in a narcotic drug and aiding, inducing, or causing dealing in a narcotic drug.

Police say the ring operated in the following counties: Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Johnson, Madison, Marion and Shelby.

Last year the Madison County Drug Task Force arrested 14 people in connection with a heroin ring stretching from Indianapolis to New York.
