D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A 24-year-old D’Iberville man who fled the scene of a fight last week only to be involved in a crash a short time later that killed his mother has been arrested on a charge of murder.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1eT4zYf) Marshall Smith is accused in the death of his mother, 45-year-old Millicent Sue Smith.

The crash that killed Smith’s mother happened after D’Iberville police responded to a report of a fight involving several people at a restaurant. Officers learned one driver, believed to be Marshall Smith, had rammed into a vehicle while leaving the restaurant.

When police officers attempted to arrest Smith, he drove off. A short time later, Smith lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road and hit a tree.
