ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities and the University of Michigan’s ArtsEngine program have received $800,000 in funding.

The grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will fund the SPARC Project: Supporting Practice in Arts, Research and Curricula. The 3-year initiative will allow the alliance to disseminate best practices in the integration of arts at research universities.

This second round of funding represents a total of $1.3 million from the Mellon Foundation toward efforts by the alliance, also called a2ru, and the ArtsEngine to expand research in support of the arts in higher education. Initial funding was awarded in 2012.
