HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Office of Elections and Offices of the City/County Clerks have launched an online voter registration system.

KHON-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1DtfIuc ) that the system launched Tuesday. The online system comes after the legislature passed a law in 2012 requiring electronic voter registration before the 2016 primary election.

The system cost $500,000 to build and is open to residents with a Hawaii driver’s license or state ID. It allows voters to update their information and request a permanent absentee ballot.
