TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) - More than 300 people have attended a funeral to pay respects to 88-year-old Cherokee County rancher who was fatally shot in Keys.

The Muskogee Phoenix (https://bit.ly/1MNcEvg ) reports the funeral for Charley Kirk was held Monday morning.

According to authorities, a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old man burglarized Charley Kirk’s home early on July 27. Undersheriff Jason Chennault said Kirk was killed when he woke up and confronted the two men. The suspects were arrested Thursday and are currently in jail in Pittsburg County on unrelated charges.

They will be transported to Cherokee County once formal charges are filed for Kirk’s death. Chennault said the men will face first-degree burglary and first-degree murder charges.
