CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Cheyenne man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend’s 6-month-old baby.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1IkRem0 ) that 30-year-old Tyler Child appeared in court Tuesday. His was bond was set at $25,000.

Court documents state that Child had been taking care of his girlfriend’s children on June 30 when he had called 911 to report that the infant boy didn’t appear to be breathing.

An autopsy ruled the boy’s cause of death as a homicide.

The involuntary manslaughter charge accuses Child of killing the baby “recklessly” and “without malice.” The charge comes with a penalty of zero to 20 years.

Child’s attorney argued Tuesday that there was no proof that Child had done anything wrong.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 14.
