HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police are investigating a shooting in Hartford that happened blocks away from where an anti-violence event took place.

Police say a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times in the North End area on Tuesday night.

He was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition.

The shooting occurred the same night as events for National Night Out, a movement meant to increase community and police relations to reduce violence.

Hartford police’s major crimes unit is assisting in the investigation.
