TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been arrested after being found in possession of a gun and marijuana on a Tempe school campus.

Tempe police say they received a call about 9 a.m. Wednesday from a parent of a student at Horizon Day Care and Desert Choices School.

The caller said a man was walking around campus and randomly checking door handles, which were locked.

Police responded and found 31-year-old Freddy Rivera sitting in his vehicle.

They say he pushed a backpack out of his truck toward one officer, allegedly telling him there was a gun inside.

Police reported finding an unloaded handgun in the backpack along with ammunition and a small amount of marijuana.

Rivera was arrested for interfering with an educational facility and possession of marijuana on school property.
