STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A man and woman are on trial in eastern Pennsylvania in the death of an elderly stroke victim four years ago who was in their care.

WNEP-TV (https://bit.ly/1P6UBQ1 ) reports that proceedings began Wednesday in Monroe County in the case of 45-year-old John Tedesco and 38-year-old Tina Tedesco .

Earlier this year, the defendants withdrew guilty pleas to third-degree murder charges in the August 2011 death of 70-year-old Barbara Rabins.

Prosecutors allege that the couple took $3,300 a month from Rabins for a dozen years but failed to care for her. They allege that the woman was left in her own urine and feces and lost more than 100 pounds in a year.

On his way into court in Stroudsburg, John Tedesco shouted “This is a witch hunt.”
