NEW MARKET, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say multiple bodies have been found inside a house that burned down in Madison County.

Multiple media outlets report that firefighters battled the New Market blaze for about three hours on Tuesday afternoon. Crews could not get inside to look for the house’s occupants until the fire was completely extinguished.

Deputy Coroner Tyler Berryhill said there were multiple fatalities inside, but could not confirm how many or their ages because investigators were still searching Tuesday night.

Hughes says deputies have interviewed a man described as having a “domestic relationship” with the family who lived inside the home. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

Investigator Jeremy Hughes says the house is a total loss. Investigators are trying to determine the fire’s cause.
