MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - Mount Vernon officials are promising their city’s full cooperation with an investigation into the death of a woman in the city jail late last month.

The Journal News reports (https://lohud.us/1W27dwp ) Mayor Ernest Davis said he welcomed the effort from the state attorney general’s office. He declined to answer questions at a Wednesday press conference about the detention of Raynette Turner.

The 42-year-old mother of right was arrested on July 25, a Saturday, on a shoplifting charge. She was held over the weekend, and reported not feeling well. She was taken to the hospital and then returned to her cell. Turner was seen alive at midday, but found dead at 2 p.m. Monday.
