MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a teenager accidentally shot himself in the foot while he and his friends were joyriding in a relative’s cars in southern New Jersey.

Millville police learned of the shooting when they responded to an auto accident call on Monday night and found a 14-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his left foot that they say was caused by a “self-inflicted accidental discharge,”

The boy told police that he and two other boys had taken a relative’s car without permission. The boy said the driver became distracted when the gun went off and ran a stop sign before crashing into another car.

Authorities say there were no injuries caused by the accident. The teen is in stable condition.

No charges have been filed at this time.
