SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A 16-year-old driver is in custody on suspicion of hitting a 4-year-old child and then driving away.

KNTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1IMSNut) witnesses told police the child was struck by a red vehicle Tuesday night. Officers later found a vehicle that matched the description given by witnesses and the teen was arrested.

San Jose police did not say what evidence led them to the boy aside from the vehicle description.

The child sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a hospital.
