Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for Aug. 5 and also available on the Internet at https://www.txfishing.com :

CENTRAL

BASTROP: Water stained; 80-84 degrees. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are slow.

BELTON: Water stained; 79-83 degrees; 0.82 feet high. Black bass are slow. Hybrid striper are fair on silver slabs. White bass are fair on minnows, white Riversides, and silver slabs. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are fair on shrimp and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines and throwlines baited with live perch.

BROWNWOOD: Water stained; 80-84 degrees; 0.36 feet low. Black bass are very good on watermelon buzzbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastic worms along shorelines. Hybrid striper are fair on shad. White bass are good on Li’l Fishies off lighted docks at night. Crappie are excellent on white tube jigs over brush piles. Channel catfish are good on stinkbait over baited holes. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with perch.

BUCHANAN: Water murky; 78-82 degrees; 10.66 feet low. Black bass are fair to good on chartreuse buzzbaits, flukes, and watermelon topwaters in 4-10 feet early. Striped bass are good on watermelon crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, and soft plastic worms. White bass are fair on Li’l Fishies and live minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel catfish are good on liver, minnows, and stinkbait. Yellow and blue catfish are good on goldfish and perch upriver.

CANYON LAKE: Water murky; 79-83 degrees; 0.16 feet high. Black bass are fair on watermelon topwaters, cotton candy flukes, and swim baits over grass early. Striped bass are fair on chartreuse Rat-L-Traps. White bass are fair on Li’l Fishies. Smallmouth bass are fair on watermelon crankbaits and white grubs in 5-14 feet early. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue tube jigs. Channel catfish are fair on shrimp. Yellow and blue catfish are good on goldfish and perch upriver.

COLEMAN: Water murky; 79-83 degrees; 5.95 feet low. Black bass are good on chartreuse spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastic worms. Hybrid striper are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.

COLORADO RIVER: (At Colorado Bend State Park) No report available.

FAYETTE: Water murky. Black bass are fair on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. Channel and blue catfish are good on minnows and stinkbait over baited holes.

GRANBURY: Water murky; 79-83 degrees; 0.01 feet high. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are fair on white striper jigs and silver spoons. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and green tube jigs. Catfish are good on stinkbait and nightcrawlers.

GRANGER: Water clear; 82-86 degrees; 0.39 feet high. Black bass are fair on soft plastic worms upriver around flooded timber. White bass are good on Rat-L-Traps along shallow roadbeds in the main lake early and late. Crappie are good on white marabou jigs in 6-12 feet. Blue catfish are good on juglines baited with fresh shad. Yellow catfish are slow.

LBJ: Water stained; 79-83 degrees; 0.72 feet low. Black bass are fair on chartreuse soft plastic worms and topwaters, and on watermelon Whacky Sticks in 6-15 feet. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows and white tube jigs over brush piles. Channel catfish are good on shrimp and stinkbait. Yellow and blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch.

NAVARRO MILLS: Water murky; 78-82 degrees; 3.09 feet high. Black bass to 3 pounds are good on watermelon soft plastics and Rat-L-Traps. White bass are good on slabs and spoons near the boat ramp in Liberty Hill Park. Crappie are fair on minnows and green tube jigs over brush piles. Channel catfish are good on stinkbait and hot dogs. Blue catfish are good on trotlines and juglines baited with perch and shad. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with perch.

PROCTOR: Water murky; 79-83 degrees; 5.99 feet high. Black bass are fair on watermelon crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are fair on live shad. White bass are good on minnows and shad. Crappie are good on minnows and blue tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are good on trotlines and juglines baited with shrimp and shad. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live bait.

SOMERVILLE: Water murky; 80-84 degrees; 8.90 feet high. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.

STILLHOUSE: Water murky; 79-83 degrees; 0.03 feet high. Black bass are good on watermelon spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics. White bass are fair on slabs and pet spoons. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait and shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.

TRAVIS: Water murky; 80-84 degrees; 10.80 feet low. Black bass are good on chartreuse worms and white spinnerbaits in 10-20 feet. Striped bass are good on chartreuse striper jigs. White bass are fair on minnows and Li’l Fishies. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait and shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.

WALTER E. LONG: Water murky. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and white tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are fair on shrimp and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.

WHITNEY: Water murky; 80-84 degrees; 0.05 feet high. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps and small spinnerbaits. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on Li’l Fishies. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on shrimp and stinkbait.

NORTHEAST

ATHENS: Water lightly stained; 87-91 degrees; 0.58 feet low. Black bass are slow on football jigs and magnum shakyheads on deeper brush piles. Crappie are good on minnows and white jigs. Catfish are slow on trotlines.

BOB SANDLIN: Water murky; 86-90 degrees; 0.56 feet low. Black bass are fair on Texas rigged creature baits and craws. Crappie are fair on minnows. White bass are good on slabs and minnows. Catfish are good on trotlines and cut shad.

BONHAM: Water stained, 88-91 degrees; 0.90 feet low. Black bass are good on plastics, crankbaits and topwaters. Crappie are good on minnows around brush piles in 10-12 feet. Catfish are excellent on prepared bait, shrimp, cut bait and stinkbait.

BRIDGEPORT: Water stained to muddy, 0.37 feet low. No report available. Use caution when navigating the lake due to floating debris.

CADDO: Water stained to muddy; 86-90 degrees; 0.45 feet high. Black bass are fair on flipping jigs and Texas rigged craws. White and yellow bass are good on slabs. Catfish are fair on trotlines and prepared bait.

CEDAR CREEK: Water stained; 87-90 degrees; 0.74 feet low. Black bass are slow on finesse jigs and smaller Texas rigged worms on docks. White bass are good on minnows and jigs. Hybrid striper are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows. Catfish are slow on trotlines

COOPER: Water stained; 0.32 feet low. No report available.

FAIRFIELD: Fishing has been slow since the fish kill in September of 2010. TPWD has discontinued stocking the lake after another kill in early September 2011. Redfish and black bass survived the kill in limited numbers.

FORK: Water lightly stained; 88-91 degrees; 0.51 feet low. Black bass are fair on football jigs, flutter spoons and deep diving crankbaits. White and yellow bass are good on minnows and jigs. Crappie are good on minnows and white jigs. Catfish are fair on prepared bait.

MARTIN CREEK: Water clear; 93-99 degrees; 1.05 feet low. Black bass are slow on weightless Senkos and wacky worms. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are good on minnows. Catfish are fair on trotlines and prepared bait.

MONTICELLO: Water clear to stained; 94-99 degrees; 0.18 low. Black bass are slow on deep diving crankbaits and drop shot worms near the intake. Some topwater fish being caught early. Crappie are slow on minnows. Catfish are slow on prepared bait

PALESTINE: Water stained; 86-90 degrees; 0.64 feet low. Black bass are slow on weightless worms near docks. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Hybrid striper are fair on minnows. White bass are fair on slabs and minnows. Catfish are good on cut shad.

RAY HUBBARD: Water slightly stained; 87-91 degrees; 0.06 feet low. Black bass are fair on football head jigs and deep diving crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair on slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on minnows. Catfish are fair on cut shad.

RAY ROBERTS: Water stained to muddy; 4.82 feet high. No report available. Use caution when navigating lake due to floating debris.

RICHLAND CHAMBERS: Water stained; 87-92 degrees; 0.25 feet high. Black bass are slow on Texas rigged worms. White bass are fair on minnows and slabs. Hybrid striper are good on minnows and slabs. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are fair on trotlines.

SOUTH

AMISTAD: Water murky; 81-85 degrees; 27.49 feet low. Black bass are good on topwaters, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and jigs over grass. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are fair on cheesebait over baited holes in 12-30 feet. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines, droplines, and throwlines on live perch. Everyone in a boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not.

BRAUNIG: Water stained. Black bass are fair on chartreuse crankbaits and soft plastic worms in reeds. Striped bass are good down rigging silver and gold spoons near the jetty and dam. Redfish are good down rigging spoons near the jetty and dam. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, cut bait, and cheesebait near the dam.

CALAVERAS: Water stained. Black bass are fair on watermelon soft plastic worms, spinnerbaits and crankbaits near the dam. Striped bass are good on spoons and striper jigs near the dam. Redfish are good on live bait along the crappie wall and the dam in 10-20 feet. Channel catfish are good on liver, cheesebait, shrimp, and shad. Blue catfish are fair on liver and cheesebait. Yellow catfish are slow.

CHOKE CANYON: Water murky; 80-84 degrees; 21.06 feet low. Black bass are good on watermelon Rat-L-Traps, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Crappie are good on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are fair on stinkbait and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are good on juglines baited with perch.

COLETO CREEK: Water stained; 87 degrees in main lake, 97 at hot water discharge; 0.36 feet low. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps and spinnerbaits. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are fair on minnows and shrimp. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch.

FALCON: Water murky; 82-86 degrees; 17.51 feet low. Black bass are fair on chartreuse jigs and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are excellent on jigs and minnows. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on cut bait, shrimp, and shad. Yellow catfish are slow. SOUTHEAST

CONROE: Water murky; 81-85 degrees; 0.68 feet low. Black bass are fair on watermelon soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and pink tube jigs over brush piles. Catfish are good on chicken livers and shrimp.

GIBBONS CREEK: Water clear. Black bass are fair on watermelon soft plastics, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on stinkbait, shrimp, and liver.

HOUSTON COUNTY: Water stained; 88-92 degrees; 0.55 feet low. Black bass to 4 pounds are good on poppers and white flukes. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows over brush piles. Bream are good on live worms off piers and over grass beds. Channel and blue catfish are good on shad. Yellow catfish are slow.

LIVINGSTON: Water fairly clear; 81-85 degrees; 0.33 feet high. Black bass are good on watermelon crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Striped bass are good but small on slabs and pet spoons. White bass are good on pet spoons, troll tubes, and slabs. Crappie are good on minnows. Blue catfish are good on shad. Yellow catfish are fair on live bait.

SAM RAYBURN: Water stained; 80-84 degrees; 1.69 feet high. Black bass are slow. White bass are fair on Li’l Fishies and minnows. Crappie are good on minnows. Bream are slow. Catfish are very good on trotlines baited with live bait and shrimp.

COASTAL

NORTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad on soft plastics. Redfish are good under rafts of shad on topwaters. Redfish are good in the marsh on small topwaters.

SOUTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad. Trout are good at the jetty on live bait and topwaters.

BOLIVAR: Trout are good on the outgoing tide at Rollover Pass on MirrOlures, live shrimp and soft plastics. Sand trout and croakers are good on fresh shrimp. Trout are good in the surf on topwaters.

TRINITY BAY: Trout are fair around the wells on live bait. Redfish are fair around the spillway on live bait.

EAST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are good for drifters working deep shell on limetreuse and plum plastics. Trout are fair to good on the shell adjacent to the channel on live bait. Trout are good on the ship channel on Bass Assassins, Tidal Surges and Gamblers.

WEST GALVESTON BAY: Sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on shrimp and crabs. Offshore is good for kingfish, ling and dolphin. Tarpon are fair to good along the beachfront on live bait.

TEXAS CITY: Trout are fair to good on the reefs and in the channel on live shrimp and croakers. Redfish and sand trout are fair to good in Moses Lake on shrimp.

FREEPORT: Trout are good at San Luis Pass on shrimp, MirrOlures and soft plastics. Trout, redfish, sand trout and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the reefs in Christmas. Trout are good in the surf on live bait and topwaters.

EAST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are good for drifters on live shrimp over mid-bay reefs. Redfish are fair on the shorelines on topwaters.

WEST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are fair on sand and grass humps on soft plastics and topwaters. Redfish and black drum are fair on live shrimp in Oyster Lake and around Shell island.

PORT O’CONNOR: Trout are good in the surf and at the jetty on live bait. Trout and redfish are good on topwaters and live bait over sand, grass and shell in San Antonio Bay. Trout and redfish are fair for drifters working the back lakes with live shrimp.

ROCKPORT: Trout are good in the guts and channels on free-lined shrimp. Trout are fair over grass while drifting with live shrimp. Redfish are good on piggy perch and shrimp around Mud Island.

PORT ARANSAS: Trout, redfish and sheepshead are fair to good at the jetty on shrimp and croakers. Trout are good in the surf on croakers and live shrimp. Offshore is good for dolphin, ling, kingfish and tuna.

CORPUS CHRISTI: Trout are fair to good on the edge of the spoils on croakers, piggy perch, Gulps and live shrimp. Redfish are good in the potholes on shrimp and croakers.

BAFFIN BAY: Trout are good on topwaters, croakers and soft plastics around deep rocks and grass. Redfish are fair to good for sight-casters on the flats on small topwaters. Trout are good at night under lights on in the Land Cut.

PORT MANSFIELD: Trout are good on topwaters on the edge of the channel and around sand and grass. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes on Gulps and plastics under popping corks. Offshore is good for kingfish, dolphin, ling and tuna.

SOUTH PADRE: Trout are good in the surf on topwaters and live bait. Trout are good over sand and grass in South Bay on Gulps, DOA Shrimp and live shrimp. Redfish are good on the flats on gold spoons, Gulps and small Super Spooks.

PORT ISABEL: Trout and redfish are fair to good on the flats on live shrimp and DOA Shrimp under a popping cork. Trout are good on the edge of flats on topwaters and live shrimp.
