TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Zookeepers in Tucson are temporarily closing a camel ride operation in the wake of a camel fighting a bacterial infection.

Reid Park Zoo officials say the camel was diagnosed Monday with the infection and is receiving aggressive treatment with antibiotics.

All four of the zoo’s camels are being kept under strict quarantine.

The bacteria can be transmitted by insects or contaminated soil or feed through direct contact with wounds.

Officials say human transmission is rare so visitors and anyone who has ridden one of the camels should not be concerned.

The rest of the zoo is open.
