STORRS, Conn. (AP) - The UConn Foundation says it raised almost $78 million in private donations for the school during the last fiscal year.

Foundation President Joshua Newton told the school’s Board of Trustees Wednesday that the fundraising efforts for the fiscal year that ended June 30 surpassed the foundation’s goal for the year by $6 million.

It was below the record $81 million raised in 2014, when the school received an $11 million gift from a single donor.

Newton says the 2015 donations and commitments include $26.3 million to support various UConn Programs; $20.6 million to support capital improvements; $16.3 million for scholarships, $9.6 million to support research and $5.2 million for faculty.

However, he cautioned that the school’s endowment of $390 million still ranks 212th among U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities.
