GLASTONBURY, Conn. (AP) - State police say an 18-year-old East Hartford man was killed in an early morning crash on Route 2 in Glastonbury.

Troopers say Erik Brandon Blades was driving westbound on the highway at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday when he lost control of his car and it crashed into a tree near exit 5D. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident forced state police to close the westbound lanes of Route 2 for a couple hours and caused major traffic backups during the morning commute.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Blades played football and baseball for East Hartford High School and graduated last year.
