TIGARD, Ore. (AP) - A 94-year-old Army Air Corps veteran was honored with eight medals during a surprise ceremony in her Tigard home.

KATU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1MOAIik ) that Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici helped present the awards to Ellina Spyker Wednesday. Spyker joined the army in 1943 and was stationed around the world including Germany and Korea.

She was presented with the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct Medal, among others.

She also received an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
